Are you a morning person? Well, studies show that those who make it a habit to exercise in the morning are more successful than those that don’t. One of the main reasons for the success of morning workouts is that you don’t let other things to interfere with your exercise.
If you workout later in the day events and activities can interfere with your workout. Moreover, your motivation may lessen throughout the day and your excuses may start to make sense later in the day.
If you workout later in the day and suffer from insomnia this may be one cause of it. Your body needs to slow down and includes your heart rate. After a workout, you also need to eat something to help your muscles recover. Eating food late at night also causes your body to work harder and thus you stay awake. Try switching to a morning routine to see if your insomnia goes away.
Working out in the afternoon may be the best time for you to exercise. This is usually the case when you workout with co-workers during lunch time. If you do lunch break workouts make sure you eat after your workout and not before.
If you eat before you workout your blood is flowing more to your digestive tract and not your muscles where it needs to go. You may feel lethargic and weak if you eat before a workout. Wait at least 60-90 minutes after eating to workout.
Working out at night may be the only time you can fit in a workout. I can understand that. However, make sure you don’t work out too close to bedtime. You can cause insomnia as well as weight gain if you eat a heavy meal before bedtime. You make also cause nightmares too. Those are definitely not fun.
The time of day you workout can be governed by your circadian rhythm. This is the time of day you feel you have the most energy. Try working out at different times of the day to see where you feel the best after your workout.
Personally, I have more energy in the morning after a workout. You may feel better at night. Also picking a time that you can stay consistent with is the key to creating an exercise habit. Make sure the time aligns with your activities to achieve the best success for your workout goals.
